A few months ago, my manager (and also lovely friend!) Jen, was looking for volunteers to try out her new meditation classes. I felt I really needed something for just me and some much needed alone time so I was more than happy to help out. If I’m being honest, I didn’t know the first thing about meditation so I wasn’t entirely sure what I was looking for from it, I was slightly sceptical about the full thing and thought it was all a bit ‘whoooooooooo’ but fast forward a few months down the line….. I love it. It’s such a vital part of my life, within weeks I felt so at peace, I felt like I had had some sort of awakening and just so ‘at one’ with myself. I really feel like I have blossomed. I’ve met some amazing ladies who all continue to support and empower each other, I make time for myself and have realised to importance of self love, my anxiety is so under control, I just feel like I am the very best version of myself right now -for my daughter, my partner, my friends + family but most importantly, for myself too. So I will now hand you over to the woman herself, the leader of our Tranquil Tribe.
I’m Jen, forty something wife, mum and founder of Tranquility21.
Striving to Support, Encourage and Empower women to just be…
As mums we are really good at putting everyone else first, but I think it’s really important to look after ourselves too. After all, if we can’t be the best version of ourselves, how can we possibly give the best version of ourselves. Meditation allows us the time to be connected with the present, not focusing on the past or worrying about the future.
Sometimes we forget we are human “beings”, not human “doings”.
Self love and self care is really important. As well as teaching meditation, I also practise it daily myself, either first thing in the morning or early evening. I’m a bit of a crystal junkie too and as well as carrying out crystal healing at Tranquility21, I also have lots around the house as well as carrying them around on me.
Since introducing meditation into my life, I have noticed that I am less stressed and don’t worry about things nearly as much as I used to. Worrying is ageing and no-one wants that right?!!. But more importantly, my friends and family have noticed how much more chilled I am.
I know how stressful it is being a mum. I have a teenage daughter ( no more words needed)….
Some of the benefits of meditation are:
• Reduced levels of stress and anxiety
• Helps to reduce physical pain and boost the immune system
• Encourages deep relaxation and feelings of peace
• Focuses the mind and promotes deep sleep
• Increased concentration
• Identifies and balances emotions
There is a well known saying “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you are too busy: then you should sit for an hour”. As a new mum 20 minutes is a luxury and there is absolutely no way you will get an hour. However, even a couple of minutes a day is easy to fit in and a great starting point.
Try meditating in the shower: Every time you take a shower imagine that the water is washing away all your stress and anxiety. Really feel the water on your skin and imagine the power of the water washing away all your negative thoughts, taking away all the worry and tension from your body and swirling away down the drain.
If you can’t manage along to a group class, there are some good apps you can download to your phone. Whatever technique you choose, I urge you to try meditation and let me know how you get on…..
Wishing you a tranquil day
