  1. 500g beef mince
  2. 1 large onion, peeled and chopped
  3. 4 carrots, peeled and chopped (2 diced, 2 into chunks)
  4. 1 or 2 handfuls frozen peas
  5. 2 tablespoons plain flour
  6. 500ml beef stock
  7. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  8. 1 tablespoon tomato puree
  9. black pepper
  10. 500g potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  11. a knob of butter
  1. Heat a pan and add the mince. Fry for 6 mins, stirring occasionally, until browned.
  2. Add the onion and diced carrots and cook for a further 2 mins. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 min.
  3. Add the stock to the pan, stirring, then add the Worcestershire sauce and tomato puree. Season with black pepper. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10-15mins, removing the lid for the final 5 mins and adding the peas.
  4. Meanwhile, cook the potatoes and chunks of carrots in a large pan of water for 15 mins or until both are soft. Drain well then mash with the butter. Season with black pepper. Cover and set to one side.
  5. Spoon the mince into a large shallow dish, then top with the carrot and potato mash, smoothing the surface. Place under a preheated grill for 4-5mins or until the top is golden brown.
  6. Serve!
